Introduction

Following on from the success of last year’s conference Metal Bulletin Events is organising it’s annual Southeast Asian Steel to be held in Bangkok.

For the second year running Southeast Asian countries have all reported positive growth in steel consumption. Despite global economic concerns analysts have stayed positive in their outlook for this growth region and steel consumption is expected to expand in 2008. With key investment projects being planned in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam this region has been linked with some of the world's leading steelmakers.

Metal Bulletin Events Southeast Asian Steel will not only chart the growth in this region but also look at the factors driving the expansion. How will steel producers feed a growing demand from the construction, automotive and white goods sectors? With consolidation seen across the globe this event will examine the impact on Southeast Asian steel producers and discuss whether they can grow and compete in an increasingly competitive market place. Rising costs in production have dominated headlines and the acquisition of raw materials continues to be a key concern for steelmakers across the globe- what are the challenges and how are these being overcome? The demand for ferrous scrap is growing and Southeast Asia’s appetite shows no signs of slowing down we'll determine where the main markets are and the challenges being faced to feed this growing demand. Efficient movement of raw material and finished steel is essential, this conference will examine the freight market prospects and assess if this region is meeting the logistical demands of a fast growing industry.
