BHP Billiton fights to avert strike

BHP Billiton is to appeal against a court decision which could allow the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) to proceed with a strike at the company's two South African aluminium smelters.

BHP Billiton had argued in court that its aluminium and ferro-chrome subsidiaries are unrelated businesses.
