South Africa Japan Vanadium makes first shipment

South Africa Japan Vanadium is making its inaugural shipment of ferro-vanadium to Japan this week, but any celebrations at venture-partner Nippon Denko will be tempered by the fact that the consignment’s arrival will mean the end of ferro-vanadium production at the company’s Hokuriku plant in Japan.

A slight delay in obtaining environmental approvals for the 3,500 tpy capacity plant at Witbank set back the start of production from last spring to summer, with commercial operations launched on July 12. A formal opening ceremony is set for September 12.
