(AMM) Harsco processing role at ArcelorMittal plant to end

Harsco Corp., which has handled on-site scrap processing at the Indiana Harbor West steel mill in East Chicago, Ind., since it was owned by LTV Corp., will end that role July 31, eliminating 57 jobs.

Layoffs for 47 hourly workers at the facility, now owned by ArcelorMittal USA Inc., will begin next week, according to Harsco's notice to the state of Indiana. Harsco told AMM it doesn't know whether its former functions will be shifted to ArcelorMittal employees or not. ArcelorMittal didn't respond to inquires.

Harsco's relationship with ArcelorMittal USA Inc. apparently have become strained.
