MMC declares force majeure on Cu concs deliveries to Onahama

Mitsubishi Materials Corp (MMC) has declared force majeure on deliveries to its Onahama copper smelter in Japan following the earthquake and tsunami that hit the country last week

 Japan has no copper mines, which means that smelters, including Onahama, depend on imported concentrates.

The country consumes over 1 million tpy of copper concentrates.
