Cabot Supermetals unit now part of GAM family

Tantalum miner Global Advanced Metals Pty. Ltd. (GAM) has acquired Cabot Corp.’s U.S.-based Supermetals business following approval by U.S. regulatory agencies of a previously announced $400-million bid keyed to transform the Australian company’s traditional mining business into a fully integrated operation.

The acquisition, announced last August, paves the way for GAM to create a vertically integrated global tantalum products group operating under its brand. Tantalum processing plants in the United States and Japan are now combined with the company’s existing mining and processing operations in Australia.
