CLOSE TO CLOSE: Base metals prices down as nickel slips below $20,000 in LME kerb

Base metals prices slid in Thursday’s kerb trading on the London Metal Exchange as nickel dipped below $20,000 per tonne and just managed to hold that level for the close.

Three-month nickel finished the kerb at $20,000 per tonne, $100 per tonne down on Wednesday’s close and compared with an official price of $20,190/195 per tonne.
The contract found its high at $20,290 per tonne and had traded as low as $19,900 per tonne by 17:51 GMT.

Steel mills are already seeing the effects of lower nickel...
