European lead premiums rise as available stocks fall

European lead premiums were holding at higher levels on Tuesday July 31 after rallying throughout the month amid falling inventories in Europe.

Metal Bulletin Rotterdam 3N7 lead premiums were $40 per tonne on Tuesday, up from $26.67 per tonne at the start of the month as inventories available on the London Metal Exchange dropped by 6.3% during the same period.
Premiums for 4N lead, used primarily in battery production, are being offered as high as $80 per tonne, reflecting the thin availability in Europe, sources told Metal Bulletin last week.
