FORECAST: Manganese ore prices will rise in Q1 2013 on tighter supply

Manganese ore prices will continue to rise in the first quarter of 2013 on strong Chinese demand, tighter supply and low inventories, market participants predict.

Metal Bulletin’s index price for 38% manganese ore fob South Africa rose to $4.06 per dmtu of metal contained on Friday December 21, compared with $3.94 per mtu previously.
Metal Bulletin’s index price for 44% manganese ore cif Tianjin rose to $5.13 per dmtu of metal contained. 
“It’s certainly firming and there is a tightness,” one trader told Metal Bulletin.
