European secondary aluminium ingot prices rise again, but scrap rise saps margins

European secondary aluminium ingot prices edged higher on Friday December 21 after good buying volumes over the past two weeks, but strong increases in scrap prices saw producer margins shrink.

DIN226 pressure die-casting ingot rose to €1,730-1,780 ($2,289-2,355) per tonne, from its previous price of €1,720-1,770, after increases in the London Metal Exchange aluminium price the previous week helped boost ingot prices.
“Prices are up a little more this week,” a producer said. “The LME picked up, and that lifted the floor a bit.”
