Hebei Province must cut 60m tonnes of steel capacity to curb pollution

China’s steelmaking hub of Hebei Province needs to cut 60 million tonnes of steel capacity by the end of 2017, to help control air pollution in the region, local government said on Thursday September 12.


The move follows hot on the heels of plans unveiled by the country’s State Council on the same day to improve air quality across the nation by slashing coal consumption, promoting clean energy usage and accelerating the closure of outdated capacity in selected industries.
