Cathode premiums tick up as scrap tightness persists in Europe

Copper premiums ratcheted higher in Europe in the week to Friday October 25, as small volumes were sold as a replacement for scrap, market sources told Metal Bulletin.

Metal Bulletin Rotterdam weighted average in-warehouse premiums were $125.63 on Friday, as broker sources reported sales as high as $150 per tonne for small prompt sales to customers struggling to source sufficient volumes in the scrap market. 
That compares with a weighted average premium of $114.62 per tonne on October 18, when the highest reported premium was $135 per tonne.
