UK secondary Al market gears up for tight January

UK secondary aluminium producers are gearing up for a tight market in January next year, with strong demand for ingot meeting a seasonal dip in scrap collection rates.

Secondary aluminium prices were flat on Wednesday December 18, but market participants expect prices to rise in early 2014 on strong demand from both automotive companies and the recovering construction sector.
“Our major customers are all anticipating better schedules next year,” a producer said. “All indications are for a better market.”
