INTERVIEW: Ferro-silicon prices near bottom in China, Erdos exec says

Ferro-silicon prices in China may be near the floor, after falling by as much as 10% since the beginning of the year, as more producers slash output, according to Qi Biao, gm of Erdos Xijin Kuangye.

Amid ample supply and a weak market for steel products, mills reduced their purchase prices for ferro-silicon by around 100-200 yuan ($16-32) every month this year, putting pressure on smelters.
Qi, however, believes the prices may reach a bottom soon given that many producers are already losing 200-300 yuan on sales.
Erdos Xijin Kuangye is part of Inner Mongolia-based Erdos Metallurgy Group (EMG), China’s largest ferro-silicon producer.
