Nickel ore in China may be tighter than anticipated – Macquarie

The nickel ore market in China may be tighter than estimates suggest, as consumers scramble to replace supply lost since Indonesia banned ore exports, according to Macquarie.

Nickel ore stocks in China have been estimated at seven to eight months of consumption from the start of 2014.
But small producers have as little as one to three months’ supply from the end of March, while traders, who hold the bulk of stocks, are holding onto them in anticipation of higher prices, Macquarie said.
