MB ZINC CONF: Amount of zinc used per car to decline, ArcelorMittal says

The amount of zinc used per car is declining, as the automotive industry moves towards using zinc-mangesium based coatings, Frederic Painchault, head of automotive markets at ArcelorMittal Europe, said.

The automotive industry is starting to move away from using pure hot rolled zinc, and instead moving to use galvanizing coating made from zinc alloyed with magnesium and aluminium, Painchault told delegates at Metal Bulletin’s 18th Zinc and its Markets conference in Istanbul.
