Codelco's next ceo 'to be known within weeks', chairman says

The world largest copper producer, Codelco, should know the name of its new ceo in “a couple of weeks”, board chairman Oscar Landerretche said on Wednesday July 23.

The state-owned miner is currently deciding between seven candidates for the position that was occupied by Thomas Keller, who was removed in June this year. "We are in the final stages of the process of selecting a new ceo, in which we have evaluated more than 20 interested applicants," Landerretche said during a hearing at the Mining & Energy Commission of Chile’s Chamber of Deputies. Besides senior mining industry executives from Chile and further abroad, the miner also has been considering candidates from other areas, according to the chairman, who was himself appointed by national president Michelle Bachelet in May 2014.
