Conflict and Russia tariffs hurt Ukraine's ferro-alloys sector

Ukraine has been losing export earnings as its ferro-alloys industry suffers from strife in its eastern region and Russian trade restrictions on ferro-alloys, European Commission officials have claimed.

Ferroalloys “are by far one of the main exports for Ukraine to the EU and they remain a significant export position,” a Commission spokesperson told Metal Bulletin. "However, their production is concentrated in the Donbass, where the conflict rages, and depends largely on coal and gas supplies, as well as on access to transport infrastructure, all of which is significantly disrupted,” he continued, noting that this hinders Ukraine from securing alternative markets.
