US stainless scrap prices continue to slide

Stainless scrap processor buying prices in the USA slid further this week.

Market participants pointed to continued declines in nickel prices and disappointing sales volumes for major domestic consumers heading into January. Steel First sister publication AMM’s assessment of stainless scrap broker/processor buying prices fell across most listed grades on Monday December 29, with Type 316 solids moving to $1,815 to $1,860 per gross ton from $1,840 to $1,880 previously, Type 304 solids to $1,365 to $1,410 per ton from $1,390 to $1,435 and Type 304 turnings to $1,230 to $1,275 per ton from $1,255 to $1,300 previously.
