EU conflict minerals self-certification should be mandatory, development committee says

The development committee of the European Parliament has agreed that a system of self-certification for importers of conflict minerals should be mandatory, according to the International Tin Research Institute (ITRI).

In a statement on its website, ITRI said the development committee had formulated its opinion on “how the draft EU regulation on ‘responsible importers’ of tin and other ‘conflict minerals’ put forward by the European Commission should be strengthened before it is finalised”.
