Indonesia proposes 15% import duty for steel products

Indonesia’s industry ministry has proposed that dozens of finished steel products have their import duties raised to a minimum of 15% from existing levels – mainly ranging from zero to 12.5%.

The proposal has been submitted to the country’s finance ministry and is expected to be implemented in the second half of the year, the industry ministry’s general director for the manufacturing industry, Mr Harjanto said this week. “Hopefully the finance ministry will approve all the proposals to protect the domestic steel industry from the invasion of imported products,”...
