ASIAN STAINLESS STEEL: Private Chinese mills seeking ways to survive

China’s private stainless steel producers – who account for over 60% of the country’s 30-million-tpy of capacity – are struggling to find ways to reduce oversupply in the market.

Kang Ming, the vp of Sichuan Jinguang Industrial Group, told delegates at the 10th Asian Stainless Steel Conference on Wednesday June 3 that such mills ought to diversify their products and services as well as implement advance technology in their operations amid the current weak market.
They should also move away from the production of 200-series products that are flooding the market, he said.
