US trade case on coated steel sheet imports could be first of many

The long-awaited trade case filed this week in the USA against imports of corrosion-resistant steel sheet could be the first of many similar cases in the US steel markets in the coming months, industry observers have said.

“We believe that the industry is also working on cold rolled [CR sheet] and possibly hot rolled [HR sheet] cases as well,” Evan Kurtz, an analyst at New York-based Morgan Stanley Equity Research, said in a research note. “These could be filed over the coming months.” A CR sheet trade case, possibly targeting imports from China and Brazil, could appear before the end of the week, some market participants said.
