IMnI CONF: Global crude steel growth will slow as China reduces output

World crude steel production is still growing, but at a slower pace than before mainly due to a deceleration in China’s output, delegates at the International Manganese Institute (IMnI) Annual Conference in Shanghai were told.

According to World Steel Assn figures, global crude steel production reached a record 1.7 billion tonnes in 2014, but only rose 1% (or 16 million tonnes) year-on-year, Aloys d’Harambure, market research manager at IMnI said during his keynote speech at the conference last week.
