IABr CONFERENCE: What to expect at the event

The 26th Brazilian Steel Congress, organised by the country’s steel association, IABr, will start on Sunday July 12, amid alarming market conditions.


In April, the group revised downward its forecast for the steel industry in 2015, due to the deterioration in national economic and political conditions and a loss of competitiveness in the industrial sector.
Apparent steel use is expected to return to the level seen in 2007, at 22.7 million tonnes – down by 7.8% on an annual basis.
Steel sales to the Brazilian market, meanwhile, are forecast to come to 19.07 million tonnes this year, a decrease of 8% over 2014’s volumes.
