The country has imposed a tariff of 3% on aluminium ingots, 4% on aluminium billets, and 6% on aluminium foundry alloys, sources said. These are all in line with the equivalent duties imposed by the EU on its members.
The duties were only announced on Tuesday August 4, and have astonished market participants.
“It’s very surprising, and will change the flow of aluminium in Europe,” a trader said. “It just came out of nowhere.”
