Codelco’s contract workers block access to key copper mines

Codelco’s contract workers blocked access roads to five of its seven copper mines on Wednesday September 9, the Chilean state-owned company said.

Chuquicamata, Gabriela Mistral, Salvador, Andina and El Teniente operations were affected by the demonstrations, according to Codelco.
After talks collapsed last week, services contract workers organised through the Chilean Copper Workers Confederation (CTC) resumed demonstrations. Protests have cost the miner $80 million so far.
