Fanya protest in Beijing urges government intervention

More than a thousand Fanya investors gathered outside the headquarters of China’s financial regulator in Beijing on Monday September 21 to demand the central government steps into the crisis.

They urged the China Securities Regulatory Committee (CSRC) and other Beijing authorities to investigate the Kunming-based minor metals exchange.
In response, a CSRC official said local government should investigate the matter. This marks a step forward for the disgruntled investors as it signals that the central government is aware of the situation.
“The Fanya issue should be handled by local government, as it was approved by the local government [of Yunnan],” an official of CSRC told Metal Bulletin on Tuesday morning.
