Century will only partially curtail Hawesville aluminium smelter

Century Aluminum expects to continue to partially operate its Hawesville, Kentucky smelter, reversing previously-announced plans to curtail all potlines at the plant from October 24.

The 244,000 tonnes per year smelter will now operate two potlines or about 40% of capacity from that date, and will focus on high-purity aluminium. It had previously been operating at 60% of capacity. The remaining operations at the Hawesville smelter will primarily produce high-purity aluminium and provide molten metal to local customers.
