Liberty revives 600,000-tpy HRC steel mill in Wales

International steel and metals group Liberty House has restarted operations at its 600,000-tpy hot rolled coil (HRC) steel plant in Wales, UK, it said on Friday October 16.


Liberty Steel Newport, which gained management control of the former Mir Steel plant in 2013, will initially target sales to the domestic UK market.
The plant has potential to double its HRC capacity to 1.2 million tpy to serve export markets as well, while the company also plans to reinstate the bar and wire rod production lines that the previous owner sold.
