Taiwan’s scrap price uptrend cut short by Tokyo Steel, Korean actions

An uptrend in Taiwan’s import prices for containerised HMS-grade scrap appeared to be temporary after domestic price cuts in Japan and South Korea damped market sentiment again in Asia, sources said.

Steel First’s import price assessment for HMS 1&2 (80:20) from the USA was $140-150 per tonne cfr Taiwan for the week ending Friday November 6, up by $2-6 from the $138-144 per tonne range of the preceding week.

Suppliers on the West Coast of the USA, which had raised their offer prices to Taiwan late last week to as much as $150-155...
