Brazil's government to sue Samarco, Vale, BHP Billiton over dam tragedy

Brazil’s federal government and the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo are to sue Samarco and its owners, Vale and BHP Billiton, for 20 billion Reais ($5.3 billion) over the Fundão tailing dam tragedy.


The legal case will be filed on Monday November 30, Brazil’s environment minister, Izabella Teixeira, said late on Friday November 27.

The proceeds will used for the recuperation of the Rio Doce River, as well as to pay financial compensation...
