ALUMINA INDEX: Prices fall 5.3%; outlook 'bearish' on smelting cuts

Alumina prices fell 5.3% last week, as buyers made aggressive bids in a market that is expected to continue to decline.

Metal Bulletin’s fob Australia alumina index was calculated at $205.28 per tonne on Friday December 11, down from $216.60 in the previous week.
Consumers indicated that they would bid for material at $200 – a level which would no longer be an “unrealistic price”, given the speed of price falls seen in recent weeks, one consumer told Metal Bulletin.
