UK parliament votes down motion to abolish EU lesser-duty rule

A motion to support tougher action by the EU against the dumping of imported cheap steel products, put forward by the opposition Labour Party, has been defeated in the UK parliament by a margin of 49 votes.

The motion called for the UK government to support the abolition of the lesser-duty rule, and to publish a full industrial strategy, including a national procurement policy to use steel produced in the UK wherever possible. It was defeated by 288 votes to 239 on Monday February 29.
