Several Chinese alumunium smelters restart as prices gain

Several Chinese aluminium smelters are restarting idled capacity thanks to higher prices for the light metal, an official at the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Assn was reported as saying.

Wen Xianjun, deputy chairman of the CNIA, was cited as saying this week that “as much as half” of Chinese aluminium capacity is profitable under current prices.
CNIA officials were not available for comments on Friday morning.
