COMMENT: Will India fare better than South Africa in chrome ore predicament?

Opposition by Indian stainless steel makers and ferro-chrome producers to the government’s decision to abolish a 30% export tax on chrome ore may sound familiar to producers in South Africa who had the same issue a few years ago.

The Indian mills and ferro-chrome producers protesting the decision say they don’t want to see too much of India’s resources leave the country as it would tighten up the domestic market for chrome units, for which prices are at multi-year lows. 
A similar situation played out in South Africa back in 2012 and many of the issues are the same.
