North Asian mills to continue growing steel exports to other Asian nations

Steelmakers from China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are “well-placed” to enjoy continuous growth in their combined exports to emerging Asian countries, the Singapore Exchange (SGX) has said.

The four North Asian economies currently account for around 90% of the total steel production in Asia, while India and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) – Bruniei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam – have strong medium-term demand growth potential as they move towards further urbanisation and industrialisation.
