BHP’s Western Australia iron ore output hits record high in FY16

Output at BHP Billiton’s Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) operations rose to a record high in the twelve months ended June 30, and the miner expects production to go even higher over the next financial year.

WAIO churned out 257 million tonnes of iron ore on a 100% basis during its 2016 financial year, the miner said in its latest production update on Wednesday July 20.
Though just short of its targeted 260 million tonnes, this is still 2% higher on the year, thanks to the Jimblebar mining hub running at full capacity and improved utilisation at the Newman ore-handling plant, according to the report.
