Nickel prices gain as Philippines recommends 20 mines for suspension in audit result

The Philippines’ Department of Natural Resources (DENR) recommended the suspension of 20 more metallic mines on Tuesday September 27 as it announced the result of an eight-week audit.

“According to the department, the suspended mines accounted for around 55% of Philippines’ production by value based on 2015 data,” a member of the Chamber of Mines Philippines told Metal Bulletin on Tuesday.
Following Tuesday’s announcement, the DENR has suspended or recommended the suspension of 30 of the country’s 41 operating metallic mines since July.
