ALUMINA INDEX: Chinese buying pushes benchmark closer to $320 fob

Strong interest from Chinese aluminium smelters has driven up alumina prices over the past seven days, though local traders have shied away from the currency risks associated with imports.

Metal Bulletin’s benchmark fob Australia alumina index was calculated at $319.79 per tonne on Thursday November 24, an increase of $5.01 week-on-week.
Prices have risen nearly 40% over the past nine weeks, as Chinese aluminium producers have faced rallying domestic prices during their seasonal restocking campaigns.
