Coking coal prices slide on the back of poor demand

Prices on the seaborne coking coal spot market slid further on December 22 amid lower offers and unhealthy demand in China, while ex-China participants continued delaying procurement ahead of the Christmas break.

“All the mills I spoke to are covered, so even if prices drop further buyers might not want to buy,” a Chinese trader said. “People were panicking a few months ago and buying non-stop but now they have realised they bought too much,” another Chinese trading source said....
