Southern European coil prices steady but market expects increases

Domestic prices for steel coil products in Southern Europe have gone largely unchanged over the past week, but mills are expected to push their offers upward, market sources have told Metal Bulletin.

After some mills in Northern Europe increased their prices for material produced in the second quarter of 2017, the mills in the South are also expected to raise their offers, according to market participants.
“The prices are mostly stable in Italy, but ArcelorMittal [in Spain] is likely to announce an increase soon,” a trader said.
The price rise is likely to be supported by trade defence measures in the EU which have limited the volumes of imported coil.
