EU sections prices stable as market awaits direction on coil costs

Prices for steel hollow sections remained flat this week as market participants waited for changes to steel coil costs, sources told Metal Bulletin on Wednesday February 15.

Metal Bulletin’s price assessment for commodity-grade square hollow sections made and delivered in Northern Europe remained at €610-640 ($647-678) per tonne delivered. Prices in Southern Europe remained at €600-635 ($636-673) per tonne delivered. “Hollow sections producers are stuck in the middle. Coil producers find it easy to sell but hollow sections producers find it difficult,” one distributor said. One reason given for this was low demand in the market, with the distributor saying that “market activity is much lower than one year ago”...
