High-grade cobalt price hits six-year high of $20/lb

Continuing their seemingly inexorable rise, cobalt prices hit fresh multi-year highs during the pricing session on Wednesday February 15, with high-grade material trading at up to $20 per lb – levels not seen since February 2011.

Metal Bulletin’s high-grade cobalt price rose 6% to $19.45-20 per lb, while the low-grade quotation moved up to $18.85-19.95 per lb, from $18-19 per lb last week.  Spot availability remains very limited, according to a number of sources, with most producers sold out, and traders holding back material as replacement costs spiral higher.
