Asia slab import prices still under pressure from lower-cost coal, HRC

Import prices for slab in Asia moved further down this week, as an influx of low-cost hot rolled coil (HRC) in the region added to pressure from falling coking coal prices.

Metal Bulletin’s Southeast Asia and East Asia slab import price assessment was $420-435 per tonne cfr for the week ending Monday February 13, widening downwards by $5 per tonne from the $425-435 per tonne cfr range in the preceding week.

Prices are $15-25 per tonne down on the peak of $445-450 per tonne cfr at the start of the year.
