LIVE FUTURES REPORT 17/02: LME metals prices headline driven; nickel fails to hold $11,000/t

Base metals on the London Metal Exchange were all negative during Friday February 17 trading following a choppy week’s trading.

The complex has been headline driven throughout the week as the metals react to individual supply news. The three-month copper price is back under $6,000 per tonne, it was recently at $5,498, down $2 on the previous day’s close. Take-up has been routine as just over 3,000 lots have changed hands on Select so far. Copper concentrate treatment and refining charges (TC/RCs) dropped to their lowest level in over seven months on Wednesday February 15 as disruptions at Escondida and Grasberg, two of the world’s biggest mines, came into effect.
