Metinvest’s billet, long steel mill idled due to railway blockade

Ukraine’s largest steel exporter, Metinvest, has halted production at its billet and long products mill because of illegal blockades on the region’s railway lines, the company said on Monday February 20.

The blockades have disrupted deliveries of raw materials to the Yenakiieve Iron & Steel Works (Yenakiieve Steel) in Donetsk, which makes billet, rebar, beam, channel and sections. The Yenakiieve Steel facility also includes the Makiivka wire rod unit.
“Yenakiieve Steel has completed preparations for temporary mothballing,” Metinvest said.
Production at Makiivka will be halted on February 25, according to the company.
