Indian steel billet shipments stir up Southeast Asian market

A series of bookings of India-origin steel billet has shaken the import market for the semi-finished product in Southeast Asia over the past week, sources told Metal Bulletin.

Four trading companies were heard buying as much as 90,000 tonnes of billet last week from a single Indian steelmaker, with most of the volume targeting countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
