US ITC upholds draconian import duties for Chinese stainless steel

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has affirmed punishing anti-dumping and countervailing duties on imports of Chinese stainless steel and strip, according to a March 3 announcement.

ITC chairman Rhonda K Schmidtlein, vice-chairman David S Johanson and commissioners Irving A Williamson, Meredith M Broadbent and F Scott Kieff unanimously voted in favour of the US Commerce Department’s determination that imports of stainless sheet and strip from China are subsidised and sold in the USA at less than fair value, according to the announcement. As a result, unfair trade orders will be issued by the department imposing anti-dumping rates of 63.86-76.64% and countervailing duties of 75.60-190.71%, as previously determined.
