ArcelorMittal, Marcegaglia submit offer for Italy’s Ilva steelworks

Steelmaker ArcelorMittal and re-roller Marcegaglia submitted an offer for Ilva’s giant steel mill at Taranto in southern Italy on Monday March 6, ArcelorMittal has said.

“We believe that the ArcelorMittal and Marcegaglia consortium is the best partner for Ilva,” ArcelorMittal chairman and ceo Lakshmi Mittal said.
“Our managers and engineers have been studying the company for some years and well understand what needs to be done to turn around the [plant’s] performance and ensure a strong, safe and sustainable future for the employees of Ilva and the people of Taranto,” he added.
